How to log a transaction by voice with Granite
Speak a purchase in Granite on iPhone or Android, then review the suggested transaction before saving. On iPhone, start with Siri or Shortcuts.
What does voice transaction entry do?
Voice transaction entry turns a short description of one purchase into suggested transaction details. Say the merchant or item and amount, then Granite can suggest the name, price, date, and category for you to review.
Nothing is added from the spoken description alone. Granite opens a confirmation step so you can correct the details or cancel before saving a manual expense.
Where can I open Log by Voice?
On iPhone or Android, open Granite’s scanner and tap the microphone button. Availability can depend on your operating-system version, Granite app version, device, account, permissions, and current feature rollout.
Android also provides a Log Voice launcher shortcut on supported devices. Touch and hold the Granite app icon, then choose the voice shortcut to open transaction capture directly.
Speak one clear purchase
Tap the microphone and describe one transaction in a short sentence. Include the item or merchant and the amount. For example: “I bought LaCroix for $7.43.” You can also include the date or category when that context is useful.
The words appear on screen while Granite is listening. Check the transcript, tap it to make a correction if needed, then choose the checkmark to continue. Use the X to cancel instead.

Check the transcript before continuing
Watch the listening screen to confirm Granite heard the merchant or item and amount correctly. A quiet setting and a short, direct phrase usually make the transcript easier to review.
If the transcript combines several purchases or misses an important detail, cancel or edit it and try again with one transaction. Granite asks you to record separate purchases individually.

Review and save the suggested transaction
After you continue, Granite uses the final transcript to suggest an amount, merchant or item name, date, and category. Review every field in the confirmation sheet and edit anything that is missing or incorrect.
Save only when the transaction matches what you intended. The saved result is a manual expense, so it can affect supported daily, weekly, and monthly budget views.
How is the voice information processed?
Your device’s speech-recognition service turns the recording into text. On iPhone, Apple explains its speech processing in the permission notice shown by iOS. On Android, speech recognition depends on the service available on the device.
After you review and continue, Granite may send the final speech-to-text transcript and the categories available for the transaction to OpenAI so it can suggest structured transaction details.
Granite requests that the AI provider not store the model response for later retrieval. Granite does not send bank credentials, does not authorize money movement, and does not save raw voice transcripts by default.
What if voice entry does not work?
If Granite opens but cannot suggest transaction details, try again after checking the connection. Temporary service limits or provider availability can also require you to wait and retry.
- Update Granite and your phone’s operating system, then reopen the app before looking for a shortcut
- Open device Settings and confirm Granite has the required microphone and speech-recognition access
- On Android, confirm a device speech-recognition service is available
- Check your network connection before continuing from the transcript
- Move to a quieter place and speak one merchant or item with one amount
- Edit the transcript before continuing when speech recognition heard the wrong words
- Use manual transaction entry if speech recognition is unavailable on the device
How does a voice entry affect my budget?
A confirmed voice entry becomes a manual expense. It affects the budget in the same way as another supported manual transaction; the shortcut used to open Granite does not change the calculation.
