Troubleshooting
How to troubleshoot a Granite bank connection
Reconnect an institution, add newly available accounts, investigate delayed activity, and know when replacing a connection is the right next step.
Start in Bank Connections
Open Settings, then Bank Connections to see the institutions and accounts Granite currently recognizes. A healthy institution shows Connected. If Granite needs something from you, the connection is highlighted and a reconnect action appears.
Expand an institution to confirm which accounts are included and to compare the current or available balances Granite most recently received. A connection can be present even when one account, product, or permission needs attention.
Why a connection may need attention
These conditions do not necessarily mean your Granite account is broken. Financial institutions control their own authentication and data-availability schedules, so a previously healthy connection can occasionally require renewed permission.
- Your institution requires you to sign in again
- A consent or connection permission is approaching expiration
- Your institution changed the way third-party access works
- New eligible accounts are available for you to approve
- The earlier connection can no longer be updated and must be replaced
- Your institution is temporarily delaying transaction or balance data
Use Reconnect Bank when Granite asks you to sign in again
Choose Reconnect Bank next to the institution that needs attention. Complete the authentication and permission steps presented by your institution and Plaid, then return to Granite.
A successful reconnect refreshes the existing relationship and allows supported transaction, balance, and cash-flow synchronization to resume. New activity may still take time to appear if the institution has not made it available yet.
Approve newly available accounts
An institution may make a new checking account, card, or other eligible account available after the original connection was created. Granite can label the institution New accounts available and offer an Add Accounts action.
Open the secure flow and approve only the accounts you want Granite to use. Adding an account can introduce additional transaction history and may change the budget, Insights, or cash-flow views after the new activity is synchronized.
Replace a connection when it cannot be refreshed
Sometimes the earlier connection can no longer be updated. Granite then identifies it as Action Required and asks you to reconnect the institution as a new connection.
Follow the on-screen instructions carefully. If Granite asks you to remove the old connection first, disconnect it and then connect the institution again. Replacing a connection can temporarily leave the app without that institution’s history while the new connection prepares and synchronizes its available data.
If transactions or balances are delayed
A healthy connection does not guarantee that every purchase appears immediately. Your institution decides when pending and posted activity, balances, and transaction changes become available to Plaid and Granite.
Before reconnecting a healthy institution, compare the latest activity at your bank, check whether the purchase is still pending, and allow time for the institution’s next update. Reconnecting repeatedly does not force an institution to post a transaction it has not released.
- Confirm that the account containing the transaction is included
- Check whether the transaction is pending at the institution
- Search Granite by merchant, amount, date, and transaction status
- Look for a posted version with a different merchant name or amount
- Review whether the transaction was ignored or manually duplicated
If credit-card due dates are missing
Granite may have card transactions without the additional liability information used to show upcoming payment due dates in Cash Flow. Bank Connections can display Enable credit card due dates and offer Reconnect Credit Card.
Complete that reconnect flow to approve the supported information Granite needs. If the institution still does not provide a due date, check the card issuer directly and reserve room for the expected payment outside the forecast.
Reconnect and disconnect solve different problems
Reconnect when you want Granite to keep using the institution and restore or expand its authorized access. Disconnect when you intentionally want to remove the institution and its associated synchronized activity from Granite.
Disconnecting can change your budget, Insights, recent transactions, and Cash Flow because those features can no longer use the removed connection. It does not cancel your Granite subscription or delete your full Granite account.
When to contact Granite
Contact Granite if the secure reconnect flow completes but the institution still shows Action Required, the same accounts appear more than once, or expected activity remains absent after it has posted at your institution and enough time has passed for another update.
Include the institution name, the approximate date the problem began, the status Granite displays, and what you expected to happen. Do not include credentials, verification codes, access tokens, or full account numbers.
